Spotlight Theater Camps: Aug. 15-16, instructor Nikki Erickson, Willmar Community Center, adaptation of the classic tale “Snow White, A New Musical.” Several different classes will be offered over the two days. The performance for the community will be at 3:45 pm Aug. 16, $2 suggested donation. The classes are for children going into grades 1-6, there is a discount for additional children in the same family, pre-registration is required at or call or text Nikki Erickson at 320-262-9170.

Create fun and crazy creatures: Aug. 15, noon to 1 pm, $7, pre-registration required; create puppets, masks and other fun pieces inspired by your favorite fairytale creatures.

Mini musical: Aug. 15-16, 1 to 4 pm, $35, help stage a fun retelling of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves in two days. Audition, dance, sing, wear costumes and work on acting skills while putting together a great performance.

Sing along: Aug. 16, noon to 1 pm, $7, sing and dance to some favorite Disney musicals.

Cooking With Riley: Shrimp boil: Aug. 8 p.m., $30; enjoy making a mess in this one pot meal enjoyed in the deep south. It includes baby potatoes, fresh sweet summer corn, and shrimp. We’ll top everything off with herbs, spices and a delicious lemon garlic butter and make Mint Cucumber Lemonade. This month we are offering a BOGO option, bring your friend.

Little Art Session: Aug. 24, 3 to 6 pm, free, at the Willmar Public Library. Create art to be on display in our community art galleries.

Willmar Community Education

Willmar Community Education has several art-related classes scheduled. Pre-registration is required for all the classes. Cooking classes are in the Food and Drink calendar in the Thursday paper.

Nature Kid Art Club: one session remaining, 1:30 to 3 pm, grades K-5, instructor Libbie Anderson. Join us doing art outdoors. We will work on a different project each month using objects from nature and different art mediums. Expand your love of nature and art at the same time. Rustic Designs Flower Farm: Aug. 18, 9:30 to 11 am, $43, all ages welcome, instructor Mary Solbreken. Enjoy a guided tour of more than two acres of flower gardens and then create a beautiful fresh flower arrangement to take home. Milan Village Arts classes have been scheduled with the complete schedule on the website. Members receive a discount on tuition. Supply fees are paid to the instructor at the end of class. Stone setting: Aug. 19-20, 9 am to 4 pm; instructor William Kennedy; silversmithing or goldsmithing experience necessary, minimum age 18; setting round cubic zirconia stones using the bead and bright cut setting and the flush or “Gypsy” setting; tuition $165; registration deadline Aug. 6.

Swedish wheat weaving: Aug 20, 9 am to 4 pm; instructor Lynette Swenson; beginner and above, minimum age 14; tuition $95, supply list upon enrollment; registration deadline Aug. 6.

Feeling dull? Learn to keep your edge: Aug. 20, 9 am to 4 pm; instructor Fred Livesay; beginners and above, minimum age 15; discuss edge geometry, sharpening stone types, technique and edge triage and how to deal with it. Bring your kitchen knives, pruners, plane and even mower blades for lots of hands-on opportunities; tuition $95; registration deadline Aug. 6.

Silversmithing 2: Sept. 17-18, 9 am to 4 pm; instructor Marilyn Hanson; designed for both intermediate and advanced students, minimum age 16; tuition $145, supplies dependent on use and current market price and $5 acetylene fee; registration deadline Aug. 6.

Gudbrandsal style rose painting: October 15, 9 am to 5 pm; instructor Clarice Dieter; beginner and above, minimum age 15; paint a round box in the Gudbrandsal style; tuition $55, box information and supply list upon enrollment, advance purchases required; registration deadline Sept. 24.

Wood bowl turning: October 22-23, 9 am to 4 pm; instructor Steve Mullins; beginner and above, minimum age 16; learn the basic skills needed to turn a wooden bowl on a lathe from “green” unseasoned wood; tuition $230, supplies $45; registration deadline Oct. 8.

Weaving rugs: Nov. 4-6, Friday evening through Sunday; instructor Diana Soehren; learn the basics of preparing fabrics, choosing a design, warping and beginning to weave on Friday; continue to work on their projects Saturday and Sunday; members who have taken this workshop have access to the Loom Room to work on their own projects; tuition $90, supplies $10 or more; registration deadline Oct. 22.

Picture Framing: spring and fall dates to be determined, 6 to 9 pm Friday, 9 am to 4 pm Saturday, instructor Brian Wolf returns from Germany twice a year to teach this class, beginners, minimum age 14; members who have taken this workshop have access to the Framing Studio to work on their own projects; tuition $105.

Open carving night: carvers of all persuasions are invited to meet from 6:30 to 9:30 pm on the first Tuesday of each month at the school to carve and network. Free.

Silver Studio: open to all those who have taken beginning silversmithing and are MVAS members. Fee is $10 for evening and $20 for all day.

Weaving Studio: open to those with experience with looms or have taken the weaving rugs class and are MVAS members; by appointment or join a weaving group, no fee; animals are maintained with warp at no cost.

Framing Studio: a fully-functional framing workshop open to those who have taken the framing workshop and are MVAS members; $5 hour, $10 for half day, $20 full day; by appointment only.
