Kendrapara, Nov 21: Plumbers of Kendrapara district have lent a big hand in Qatar stadiums and other infrastructure meant for the FIFA World Cup.

Around 25,00 plumbers were engaged in Qatar Stadiums and other infrastructures meant to accommodate players and staff at various locations by HBK Engineering, Trident, L&T, and other construction companies since December 2010 after Qatar was chosen to host the World Cup, said Samar Sahoo, an immigration consultant, and manager of Mahavir Travels in Pattamundai.

“I had arranged visas and other travel documents for hundreds of plumbers from Kendrapara,” said Sahoo.

Biswanath Mahalik of Khadipal village under Pattamundai block, who has been working for a company in Qatar that built the Lusail Stadium in 2014, said, “Around 400 plumbers and other skilled manpower were engaged by the construction company in plumbing work of the stadium that is now ready to host the World Cup”.

Skilled plumbers in our district have a good name across the globe. Around 50,000 plumbers from the Kendrapara area working abroad and the State Institute of Plumbing and Technology (SIPT) established at Pattamundai in 2010 has trained many plumbers in the last 10 years, said Rajnagar MLA Dhruba Sahoo.
