It’s been revealed that In The Walking Dead boss, Angela Kangis going to be the showrunner for the upcoming Marvel Silk: Spider Society for Amazon Prime Video. This news was revealed by The Hollywood Reporter and I have to say that this series is quickly becoming one of my most anticipated series.
So, The Walking Dead has now come to an end, and it seems as though Kang has opted to switch zombies for superheroes. This new Silk: Spider Society series is going to air first in the United States on MGM+ (which is the premium cable network in the US currently known as Epix) and then globally on Amazon’s Prime Video streaming platform.

Here’s what Jennifer Salke, the head of Amazon Studios, had to say about this upcoming series:
Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Sony’s recent live-action and animated reimagining of the Spider-Man franchise has represented some of the most dynamic superhero storytelling in film. Together with Angela Kang’s creative vision, we couldn’t be more pleased to bring Silk: Spider Society to our MGM+ and Prime Video customers.
This news comes after it was announced that Amazon is going to be working very closely with Sony Pictures on upcoming Marvel original TV shows. This comes after Phil Lord and Christopher Miller made arguably one of the best superhero movies ever made in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse for Sony Pictures.
So, after that success, it was announced that Sony Pictures TV, Amazon and MGM (which is now owned by Amazon) are all going to be working very closely with these future animated Spider-Man shows and movies.

Amazon’s now going to have a huge selection of TV shows on its streaming platform and pretty big IPs. They’ve already got the Lord Of The Rings: Rings Of Power series. In the future, we’re going to be seeing some James Bond content after Amazon’s acquisition of MGM Studios. We’re now hearing that they’re also going to have Spider-Man-related content on there too.
It certainly looks like Amazon Prime Video is going to be competing with the likes of Disney Plus which is the home of some of the world’s biggest ever IPs with the likes of Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, Disney’s own content and all the stuff that Lucasfilm is going to be made in the future such as the Indiana Jones 5 movie.
As for Kang, she joined The Walking Dead in Season 2 and was promoted to showrunner in Season 9. She ended up steering AMC’s flagship series through its eleventh and final season and developed the upcoming Norman Reedus-led spinoff. Kang actually stepped down from her role as In The Walking Dead showrunner earlier this year after Melissa McBride’s exit.
Moreover, it seems as though this deal between Kang and Amazon has been in the works for months and it might help to explain her exit from the Daryl Dixon Walking Dead spinoff show. Here’s what Kang had to say about working on this new one Silk series for Prime Video:
I’m beyond thrilled to be joining the Amazon Studios family for this next chapter of my career. I look forward to working with the executive team on diverse, character-forward, watercooler shows for a global audience and am so excited to dive in to my first challenge — bringing Korean-American superhero Silk to life on screen.
This series will be based on characters created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos. The series is inspired by the Marvel comics and follows Cindy Moon, a Korean-American woman bitten by the same spider that bit Peter Parker, as she escapes imprisonment and searches for her missing family on her way to becoming the superhero known as Silk. The show marks one of the first to feature a Korean-American superhero at its center.
Sony’s recently installed TV studio president Katherine Pope had this to say about the upcoming series:
We can’t wait to bring the adventures of Cindy Moon to life, thanks to the creative dream team of Chris and Phil, Angela and Amy, along with our partners at Marvel and Amazon. We know this exciting series with new and never-before-seen characters and storylines will wow audiences watching first on linear MGM+ and then around the world on Prime Video.
There’s no release date for Silk: Spider Society on Amazon Prime Video yet.
